DESCRIPTION
Herbalists have always taken a flexible approach to the use of goldenrod, which is an antioxidant, diuretic and astringent. ‘America’s greatest inventor’, Thomas Edison, successfully experimented with it in the 1920s in a bid to maximize the commercially valuable rubber content contained within its stems. Native Americans chewed on the plant’s toothed leaves to relieve sore throats or toothaches, and it has also been used to treat tuberculosis, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, chronic nasal catarrh and diarrhoea. The constant across the centuries has, however, remained its reputation as a healer of urinary complaints.
